The world’s leading trade fair for lighting and building services technology opens its doors in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
Today, on March 13, Light + Building 2016 begins. The exhibition features a combined spectrum of products in the fields of lighting and building services; it is one of the biggest trade fares of its kind in Europe, and the world’s leading trade fair for the sector with an unparalleled range of exhibits. Market leaders in lighting equipment and services, electrical engineering, and building automation made sure to secure their stands at the fare that is now fully-booked for the next six days. This year, there are 2,589 exhibitors here, which is an almost 4% increase from 2014. Companies are sharing a space of 248,500 square meters across 22 hall levels. “Light + Building depicts the sector in its entirety. We are confident that the coming edition of the world’s leading trade fair will be a complete success,” said Wolfgang Marzin, Chairman of the Board of Management of Messe Frankfurt.
The umbrella theme for Light + Building 2016 is the rapid digitalization that is happening in the lighting technology sector, which got reflected in the fair’s official motto: “Where modern spaces come to life: digital – individual – networked”. With the latest know-how in lighting technology, companies will put their best foot forward, and present intelligent, future-oriented solutions as well as innovative design. The focus here is not only on the current trends in the luminaire market and the effect of light on people, but also on the role that lighting can play in intelligent homes, building automation and energy management. Around 1,650 manufacturers will present the complete spectrum of products and services revolving around the subject of light: design luminaries, technical lighting, lamps of all sorts and for all uses, as well as a huge selection of lighting components and accessories.

During “Futurecourse 2016”, a series of political and business discussions, attendees will be ale to listen to:

Digital Building, a special ongoing show made possible thanks to a cooperation of 16 exhibitors, illustrates digitalization in buildings and shows the flexibility offered by networking on the basis of several different scenarios. “Through the day with smart lighting” offers an overview of the possibilities opened up by smart lighting and shows how lighting in different spheres can be adjusted in accordance with the individual human needs.
Luminale 2016, a show born in 2002 and taking place this year for the eighth time, is a combination of projection shows, performances and parties that will set the visual city atmosphere for the fair attendees, tourists and everyone who is interested. the highlight of Luminale 2016 has been created by the interaction designer and light artist Christopher Bauder, well-known for his Berlin Border of Lights installation. Frankfurt churches, such as St. Catherine’s Church, “Weißfrauenkirche”, “Haus am Dom” and others, will transform into spaces for interactive light shows and performance.
